I had the pleasure of meeting Mark and his team at his campaign headquarters just weeks before the debates took place between the candidates for the 36th CCD Democratic Primary. He agreed to participate in our Candidates Questionnaire series and his remarks were amongst our most popular articles atMyBrooklynReport.com.

Voting in Bed Stuy (Can You Win Here?)

In 1989, Bedford Stuyvesant arrived on the world stage.

Spike Lee filmed Do The Right Thing on Stuyvesant Avenue between Quincy St and Lexington Ave, right in the heart of Bed Stuy. The filmed portrayed a neighborhood and it’s residents struggle with social issues that threatened to alter the world they knew that was their BLOCK.

Inside this film are the reasons why Al Vann will continue as the Council Member representing the neighborhood and why Mark Winston Griffith lost the election.

The Results are In for the 36th NYC Council District

With 100% of the precincts in the 36th Councilmanic District reporting, Al Vann will continue to represent the residents of Bedford Stuyvesant and parts of Crown Heights.

Mark Winston Griffith came in a distant second, even after receiving the endorsements of Councilman Charles Barron and Reverend Al Sharpton.

It’s Up to You Bed Stuy, Everyone is Watching

Election Day is upon us in New York City and all eyes are on Brooklyn’s 36th Council District.

Yeah, we know there is a hotly contested race for Mayor between Bill Thompson and Michael Bloomberg that’s been receiving all of your attention. You can’t help it. Every media outlet for the last 2 months has been featuring every aspect of the Mayoral race.
